Looking to teach your gundog the stop whistle?
The stop whistle is one of the most essential gundog skills, no matter your dog’s role. Whether you need to stop a beating dog mid-hunt, or handle a picking up dog at a distance, a reliable stop whistle keeps them connected to you even when they're running away from you or nose down in thick cover.
Part of our gundog skills mini series, these stop whistle group training classes take place in Haslemere on the Surrey, West Sussex, Hampshire border.
Our gundog skills mini-series will run across three Saturdays in Spring 2025, allowing you to focus on one or more topics of interest that you want to explore in more depth or that you might be finding rather challenging.
Jules will show you how to break down the learning to help you and your dog make progress through the topic. The group sizes will be capped at 6 handlers and dogs to ensure that Jules can provide all attendees with individual live feedback, constructive help and support, as well as practical advice on the next steps for your dog.
Each 40-minute session will focus on the details of one specific behaviour at a time. They have been purposefully kept short as you and your dog will be working more intensely, and too much repetition will not benefit anyone.
These sessions are open to all gundog breeds and levels, but please note that the focus will be on the understanding of the cues and/or concepts, perfecting them, and progression and so we will not be using shot or working over long distances.
To help you plan, here is the full schedule, which will be running on Saturday 22nd March 2025, Saturday 5th April and Saturday 26th April:

Sessions can be mixed and matched, £25 per session or £40 for two. Please add all the sessions you would like to attend to your basket, and the discount will be automatically applied when you checkout. We would not recommend doing more than two sessions on each day.
Please ensure that you bring plenty of high-value treats with you, preferably light in colour so that they can be seen on the grass, not crumbly or flaky, at least 1cm cubes (e.g. JR Pate, Cheese, Meat cubes). You may also want to bring a couple of toys that your dog enjoys to play with. The weather may be cold at this time of year, and these sessions may be sedentary, so do wrap up warm.
